Portuguese Craft Beer. A topic that is near and dear to my heart.
Looking for the best spots to drink Portuguese craft beer in Porto right now? You’ve come to the right place! The Portuguese craft beer scene may be young but there’s so much history behind it. Portugal being an inherently catholic country, you can bet we have had plenty of cheeky beer-brewing monks. Trust me: Portuguese beer is delicious. Here are the watering holes with the best selection of Portuguese craft beers in Porto.
PORTUGUESE CRAFT BEER BARS IN PORTO
1. Catraio, the first craft beer bar in Porto
Nice little bar with a welcoming vibe where you’ll meet the craft pioneers of the city. That’s right! Catraio was the first craft beer bar & shop in Porto, opened in 2015. Many craft nerds of the city end up here at the end of the day. Shut your eyes and point somewhere, drink what you’re given. It’s all amazing! Catraio regularly gives the bar over to a guest cook. Expect great foods to pair with your Portuguese craft beer. If you adore craft beer (their motto), you’ll feel at home!
How to get there: a 10-minute walk from the subway station Aliados.

2. Fábrica da Picaria
If you want to try the lesser-known beers on draft, Fábrica da Picaria is the place to go. Their beer goes straight from the tanks to the glass. And you know what they say: fresh beer tastes better. No beer bottles, no oxygen pick up, no pasteurization, no centrifuges, no kieselguhr filtration… at Fábrica da Picaria, Portuguese craft beer is as pure as it can be! There’s a TV too, should you wish to watch a football match. And have I mentioned the amazing traditional food to get along with their craft beers? Their tasty bar menu includes francesinha and other very typical sandwiches from Porto. Go there and give it a try!

3. Musa
Happiness is a Portuguese craft beer on one hand and a bifana on the other and, at Musa, you’ll find true happiness. They have an incredible selection of Portuguese craft beers and a beautiful rock playlist to go along with your beverage. Rock lovers will enjoy this spot a lot. Don’t visit for glamour or comfort and don’t ask “what’s this?” before trying the fried pork’s ear. It’s simply amazing! They love beer. You love beer. Go get it!
How to get there: a 15-minute walk from Aliados and São Bento subway stations.

4. Armazém da Cerveja
A great place to kill a little — or a lot of — time. This very cozy and unpretentious beer spot serves over 70 styles of craft beer (international brands as well). Ask the friendly staff to help you figure out what’s your favorite style of beer. You can bring your own food, or order from a restaurant in Porto and enjoy your meal there for free. Gotta love Armazém da Cerveja!

5. Colossus
Your home away from home and where we sometimes go for post-work drinkies. Colossus is a 100% national artisan brewery that was born in 2015 in the city of Porto. It is a great option if you want to escape the crowds around the main area in Porto. Wonderlust and Adamanteia, the first Portuguese craft beers they have launched, can already be drunk in more than thirty spaces, from north to south of the country. But we recommend you go straight to the source. Believe me: it’s hard to be sad when you’re drinking a pint of Colossus’s Portuguese craft beer.
How to get there: a 10-minute walk from the subway station 24 de Agosto.
