Planning a trip to Portugal and wondering which Porto wine tour is right for you? You’re not alone! This is one of the questions we hear most often. So, we decided to put our answer in writing to help future travelers.
Spoiler alert: Each of our Porto food and wine tours offers something unique, delicious, and full of surprises.
Porto Wine Tours
First things first, our tours go far beyond food and wine. They’re also about people, hidden alleyways, daily rituals, tucked-away kitchens, and bold flavors you won’t find in guidebooks. Because of this immersive approach, over the past decade, our Porto wine tours have been featured by Lonely Planet, The Guardian, National Geographic, and Parts Unknown by Anthony Bourdain.
Describing our Porto gastronomic experiences without giving away too many surprises is tricky, but here’s our best attempt. We hope this helps and we know it is not an easy choice, but we promise that whichever food tour you pick, you will have a wonderful time with us!
Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour
The Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour is all about present-day Porto and how the city has embraced the 21st century while staying true to its roots. It’s the longest-running food tour in Porto — our very first tour — so it will always have a special place in our hearts. It showcases classics, yes, but in modern settings… what the younger generation of entrepreneurs have made for themselves and the city.
It combines our love for what is best in the city with what is off the beaten path. Our stops on this tour are tucked into small market stalls and down little alleyways. The food highlights local recipes that you would not easily find on your own. And yes, you’ll taste a variety of wines beyond the famous Port wine on this tour.
We’ve designed this tour to accommodate most dietary needs, making it a great option for mixed groups. We can accommodate:
- Vegetarians;
- Pescatarians;
- No Pork;
- No Beef;
- Gluten or Dairy intolerants;;
- No Nuts;
- Coriander or Cilantro intolerants;
- Shellfish Allergies;
- No Seafood;
- No Alcohol.
Vintage & Port Wine Food Tour
Think of this one as a love letter to Porto’s past. The Vintage & Port Wine Food Tour focuses on food and places that fell out of fashion but are now making a comeback. And we will tell you all about it!
As you probably know, Porto is in fashion right now, but for a long time, it was a forgotten destination in Europe. Now that the city is bursting with energy from all the tourism, we think it is an important moment to highlight the history, including:
- The food;
- The culture;
- The architecture that still defines the city today.
What’s more, the last tasting location is very special as we host a mini Port wine masterclass in a beautiful private room, a favorite moment for many guests. If learning about Port wine is high on your list, this is the tour for you!
We can accommodate:
- Vegetarians;
- No Nuts;
- Coriander or Cilantro intolerants;
- No Alcohol;
- No Seafood;
- Shellfish Allergy.
Portuguese Craft Beer & Food Tour
Craving something different from wine-focused tours? Our Craft Beer & Food Tour is for beer lovers (and the beer-curious) who want to pair Porto’s emerging craft brews with comfort food classics.
You’ll discover:
- Porto’s growing craft beer scene;
- The brewing process and beer styles;
- The role of beer in the city’s history, including the 19th-century beer boom.
Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast or someone willing to give it a try, we’ll introduce you to some of the city’s best brews alongside mouthwatering comfort food.
Dietary accommodations:
- Vegetarians;
- No Pork;
- No Meat;
- No Nuts;
- Dairy Intolerance;
- No Seafood;
- Shellfish Allergy.
Comparing Porto Wine Tours
The Vintage & Port Wine Food Tour focuses on food and places from another time, while the Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour focuses on our modern daily life.
The first one includes a mini Port wine masterclass, while the second one takes a deep dive into our local market. The first can accommodate fewer dietary restrictions, and the Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour was designed to be able to accommodate as many as we can.
Both tours last 3.5 hours and are hosted in small groups of no more than 12 guests. Each follows a different path through the downtown area of Porto, and you’ll visit completely different tasting locations — the tastings do not overlap. And for those who want a little extra magic…
Upgrade with the Premium Drink Package
For those wanting to elevate the experience even further, we offer a Premium Drink Package. This transforms any of our regular daily food tours (Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour, Vintage & Port Wine Food Tour, or Portuguese Craft Beer & Food Tour) into a more exclusive adventure. What’s included:
- A handpicked, upgraded wine selection;
- A surprise “beer-to-go” souvenir (on the Craft Beer Tour);
- An extra tasting stop with more food and drinks;
- A private, intimate group setting with your dedicated Taste Porto guide;
- Exclusive access to our local partners and WSET-certified storytellers;
- Tour insurance + a charitable donation to a local NGO supporting Porto’s homeless community.
