Looking for vegetarian restaurants in Porto? People often associate me with pork dishes, hearty taverns, and meat-filled sandwiches. And yes… my love for pork is quite legendary. But here’s something I’ve learned over the years: my vegetables are pretty delicious too.
So today I thought I’d share a few vegetarian restaurants in Porto that have impressed me lately. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or simply curious about plant-based versions of Portuguese dishes, these are a few places I’ve been keeping an eye on.
Vegetarian Restaurants in Porto
Traditional Portuguese gastronomy can be a little difficult to navigate when it comes to the so-called special dietary requirements. With that in mind, I’ve prepared a self-help guide for vegetarian travelers. This might surprise you, but this guide also includes where to eat vegetarian francesinha in Porto. Continue reading.
ESPÉCIE
I’ve been seeing more and more people gather here — families, friends, travelers — and it’s easy to understand why. The vibe is relaxed, the terrace is lovely, the prices are friendly, and the food is seriously good. Their Korean Fried Cauliflower? Let’s just say it’s a strong contender for dish of the year.
How to get there: a 5-minute walk from Aliados metro station.

EM CARNE VIVA
This is where things become a little more refined. Em Carne Viva offers a fine dining experience focused on vegetarian and vegan cuisine, and it does it beautifully. The décor is elegant, the atmosphere calm, and the dishes thoughtfully prepared. It also happens to be one of the places where you can try a vegetarian francesinha. And just in case someone in your group insists on meat, they usually keep one non-vegetarian option on the menu.
How to get there: a 3-minute walk from Casa da Música metro station.

EMOTIVO
This is a fine dining restaurant and a very special one. Here, you can travel the entire country without leaving Porto. Every two months, two regions of Portugal are chosen to be the theme of the restaurant (vegetarian options are always available). The way you choose your menu is actually through a game – it’s a lot of fun but I won’t say more so I don’t spoil the surprise. It’s a young restaurant but it’s already making quite a splash. I cannot recommend Chef Sara Verde enough. What a Queen!
How to get there: a 15-minute walk from Aliados metro station.

CASA DE CHÁ DA BOA NOVA
Two Michelin Stars. SPECTACULAR views over the Atlantic Ocean. And a tea house designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Siza Vieira. Beautiful all year round. Haute de cuisine focusing solely on seafood AND vegetarian food.
How to get there: It will take you 15 minutes by car from Matosinhos Sul metro station.

These are, of course, just a sample of the wonderful vegetarian restaurants you can find in the city. I will continue my investigation on your behalf and will be sure to share all my findings!
Enjoy your time in my streets!
Your friend,
Porto ❤
