Every year on Portugal Day, June 10th, we come together to celebrate Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities! This national holiday marks the death of poet Luís Vaz de Camões, in 1580, the author of Os Lusíadas and widely considered one of the most important poets in the Portuguese language.
It’s also a time to honor the place we call home: the land where our tour company was born, where our families and friends live, where our children grow up, where wildlife thrives, and where countless visitors discover a touch of magic.
Year after year, every corner of Portugal holds a piece of our hearts. (Yes, that includes Lisbon!)
Portugal Day
As one of our tour guides put it in our 20 Questions with Taste Porto series:
“Portugal changes as much as you’re willing to explore it. A 30-minute drive can make you feel like you’re on a different planet.”
Have you felt that magic too?
Although Portugal is about the size of Indiana, it offers stunning culinary diversity. Whether you’re traveling from North to South — or venturing to the islands — you’ll discover an incredible range of flavors. There are nearly as many types of sausage, bread, cheese, wine, beer, and conventual sweets as there are landscapes. No kidding!
Even better, these rich, regional flavors often come together around one table – celebrating the joy of sharing a meal in a country that loves to gather, taste, and connect.

So here’s to you, Portugal! May you always keep the diversity that makes you so beautiful — and that keeps stealing our hearts (and stomachs) again and again. Our love is here to stay. 💙
With love,
Your Foodie Friends in Porto
