It closes on Sunday.<br><br>As this is a self-guided food tour, we recommend checking the opening hours of each tasting location before your visit. They were owned by farmers who sold their products here.<br><br>During the industrial revolution days, these places gained an even higher relevance, since they were the places that the working-class men visited for a cheap meal: a sandwich and a glass of wine.<br><br>In recent years, many places opened as \u201ctascas\u201d and \u201ctabernas\u201d, bastardizing the concept, but these guys came along with THE real thing. No fancy stuff, no high prices, just exactly as it was before. Taxca is one of our favorite places in Porto because it\u2019s simple and honest. You get your food at the counter and you enjoy yourself.<br><br>Today, you\u2019ll be treated to a cured ham sandwich made from a leg of ham sourced from a special breed of pork called B\u00edsaro, found exclusively in the northern region of Portugal. This ham has been aged for 15 months, ensuring its exceptional quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tasteporto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/self-guided-food-and-drink-tour-of-Porto.jpg\"><\/figure><\/center>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">YOUR EYES ARE SAYING: WHERE&#8217;S MY SANDWICH?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well well, present the QR code to the waiter, to generate a code that will give you access to a cured ham sandwich. If you want to blend in with the locals, try expressing your gratitude in Portuguese: \u201cObrigada\u201d if you\u2019re a lady and \u201cObrigado\u201d if you\u2019re a gentleman. When someone responds with \u201cde nada,\u201d it means \u201cyou\u2019re welcome.\u201d<br><br><strong>THIS IS IMPORTANT:<\/strong> Avoid ordering a bottle of water at this establishment, unless you wish to be part of a playful tradition. They have a unique way of teasing non-alcoholic beverage drinkers by ringing a bell.
