Food Passport | Taste Porto Food Tours

Let me start by thanking you for choosing Taste Porto to guide you through Porto’s food secrets. With more than a decade of experience and countless delighted guests, including Anthony Bourdain and Rick Steves, we are thrilled to embark on this journey with you through our beautiful and flavorsome city.

Over the next few hours, you will roam your way around across Porto’s best neighborhoods for independent eateries, as your Food Passport guides you from place to place, earning you food and drinks as you go. Accompanied by your Food Passport, you’ll have the opportunity to soak up Porto’s culture, history, and lifestyle as well.

Many inquire whether this self-guided food tour of Porto showcases the “best” places in town. It doesn’t…or maybe it does? The truth is: we don’t believe there’s such a thing since it depends on one’s taste. This way we’d rather take you on a tour of our favorite places in town, the ones we go to on a daily basis. There are two key reasons behind our choices:

  • Food: food holds immense significance to us as a form of cultural expression. Through the carefully curated selection, we aim to introduce you to the essence of Portuguese culture. Rather than relying solely on well-known dishes like cow’s intestines (tripas), codfish, “francesinha,” or Port wine, we showcase everyday ingredients that are integral to our daily lives but may be unfamiliar to you, providing an authentic glimpse into our culinary traditions.
  • And equally important are the people behind the scenes. One of the things that makes Taste Porto food tasting and cultural walking tours unique is the fantastic personalities that are behind the local businesses we visit. Today, you will have the privilege of meeting some of the remarkable individuals who contribute to the rich fabric of Porto’s culinary landscape.

If you like what you taste and see, feel free to share it with us (and with the world) using the hashtags #TastePorto or #TastePortoMoments. We highly value your feedback and cherished memories, and we are delighted to be a part of your Porto adventure.

Now, before we move forward, let us share two extra things with you:

  • First and foremost, we would like to emphasize that every tasting included in this Food Passport is fully paid for. Our commitment lies in promoting local vendors, producers, and shops by ensuring that we support them financially. By covering the costs of the tastings, we contribute to the success of Porto as a community and foster strong relationships with these local businesses.
  • Secondly, we want to take time to say thank you because, by purchasing a ticket for today’s tour, you have made a meaningful contribution to a local NGO called CASA. Their invaluable work involves providing food and clothing to the homeless in our city. We genuinely appreciate your support and extend a warm THANK YOU for making a positive impact in the lives of those in need.

Shall we start?

This is where we are heading first:

  • Tasting Location #1: Loja dos Pastéis de Chaves

We won’t give away any spoilers, but brace yourself: there’s a good chance you’ll fall head over heels for our city!

Yours truly,
