Tasting Location #2: Confeitaria Moura – Taste Porto

Confeitaria Moura is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

As this is a self-guided food tour, we recommend checking the opening hours of each tasting location before your visit. While we carefully select all of our local partners, we do not manage these establishments, and their schedules may occasionally change without notice.

If finding your way around isn’t your strongest skill, simply follow this:

WELCOME TO CONFEITARIA MOURA

A historic bakery that first opened its doors in 1892 in Santo Tirso, a town located 30 km from Porto.

At the helm of this establishment is João Pelayo, the fifth generation of his family to run the bakery. Previously working as a financial consultant in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, João decided to return and contribute to the growth of the family business. In addition to the original store, he has also opened a branch in Bom Sucesso Market, in NorteShopping, and the one you are visiting right now.

Now, you may be wondering: what brings us here? We are here to indulge in the delicious Jesuíta!

Jesuíta

This pastry was created by a skilled baker who came from Bilbao, Spain and joined Confeitaria Moura. The origin of the name remains a bit of a mystery: some say it is because the color of the pastry resembles the garments worn by Jesuit priests, while others believe it is related to the Spanish baker’s affiliation with the Jesuit order.

In any case, part of the recipe is a closely guarded secret, behind the door there, accessible only to the bakers who are part of the original family, thus preserving the tradition and the secret of the recipe. You can find this cake in other parts of the city, but the puff pastry part of the recipe is unknown to everyone outside the family. While you’re here, we invite you to also enjoy a limonete, made with the same mille-feuille dough.

Have a seat, show the QR code to the waiter and enjoy the flavors of both the Jesuíta and the Limonete (coffee is included). Enjoy or, as we say in Portuguese, Bom Apetite!
