But is the presentation of a dish just as essential as its taste? And if so, should we take some time to learn the main food plating techniques to enhance the flavor experience?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/wordofmouth\/2015\/jul\/21\/food-presentation-dinner-food-enjoyable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study from Oxford gastrophysicist<\/a>, Professor Charles Spence, seems to suggest that the food presentation can actually make a dish taste better. In the study, Spence\u2019s team prepared 3 salads and asked the participants to rate each one before and after they ate them. Each plate used the same ingredients but was plated differently.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tasteporto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/food-plating-techniques.jpg\" alt=\"food plating techniques\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One salad was plated to resemble a painting by artist Wassily Kandinsky;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The other salad was the kind of salad we do at home (when we are in a hurry);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And the third was neatly arranged. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can you guess which salad the participants liked best?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You got it: it was the salad that resembled a painting. Protein should be between 3 and 9, starch or carbohydrate from 9 to 12, and veggies from 12 to 3.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Free Form Plating<\/strong><br>This method draws inspiration from art and allows for creative, abstract arrangements, much like the Kandinsky-inspired salad, remember?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Landscape Plating<\/strong><br>This method of plating takes its name from the arrangement of landscaped gardens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r2tuI8uyzA8\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food plating techniques #3: Avoid food with the same color scheme <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Work with more colorful ingredients to add more color to your meal: carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, lettuces, beans&#8230; all have gorgeous colors. Also, use the sauce to make the dish look more interesting.
