There are a few moments each year when my homes fill with a very particular kind of excitement. Easter is one of them.
On Easter Sunday, families across my streets gather around large tables. Relatives travel from nearby towns, kitchens wake up early, and the day slowly turns into one long celebration built around food — just as any good Portuguese tradition should be.
And when I think about the dishes that appear most often on those tables, one of them always comes to mind: Goatling in the oven.
Goatling in the oven recipe
If you’d like to experience a dish that has been part of Portuguese Easter tables for generations, this oven-roasted goatling is a beautiful place to start. It’s simple, rustic, and full of the kind of flavor that only slow cooking and tradition can create.
Around this time of year, the team from Taste Porto often recreates recipes like this on their social media channels. In these sessions, one of my local guides, Joana, and her mother invite guests into their kitchen and cook the way Portuguese families have done for generations. There’s storytelling, laughter, and of course — plenty of food. And Easter goatling is one of the recipes they love preparing together.
Enjoy!
