First-time visitors love our Vintage & Port Wine Tour in Porto

Rediscover flavors and places from the past, now with a modern twist, as we guide you through memory lane in Porto, sharing our collective memories as locals. This tour serves as a crash course in the city's culinary evolution, providing insights into Porto's food traditions and the exciting revival of its cuisine.

Our Vintage & Port Wine Food Tour is loved by first-time visitors to Porto, as it not only takes you off the beaten path but also hits several highlights of the city, including plenty of must-sees for a first-time visit. It is the perfect experience for families, friends, couples, adventurous foodies or solo travelers who want to encounter Porto like a local.

During this Port Wine Tour, you will taste traditional Portuguese dishes, regional wines, local pastries, and, of course, Port wines. The last tasting location is very special as we host a mini Port wine masterclass in a beautiful private room, where we reveal the secrets of this amazing beverage and highlight smaller-scale producers that truly are different from the big brands (and there’s real value in getting to know them). You'll get to taste the three main styles and leave with the knowledge to enjoy Port like a true expert.

In total, you will experience a well-balanced gastronomic tour of 14 food tastings (a perfect balance of sweet and savory) and 7 different beverages (including 6 wines from Portugal's many undiscovered regions).

Expect to see not only places & food, but also meet and be welcomed by local families in their small, authentic restaurants, cafes and bars. Your Port Food Tour will be hosted by a passionate Porto native that will help you travel back in time and experience how Porto’s past is influencing its future in terms of local cuisine as well as its architecture and culture.

Trip Itinerary

Stop #1 – One of Porto's oldest Mercearias

Vintage at its best! Start your day off right with a mixed board (Tábua Mista) of mainly noble types of local sausages and two different kinds of Portuguese cheese.

Stop #2 – A former Flower Shop that transformed into a Wine Bar

As a meal or as a snack, can't beat our Portuguese canned sardines. Enjoy a glass of wine from Vinho Verde wine region along with some traditional canned fish. Hugo, the owner, will teach you many things about small-scale wine producers and traditional canned fish.

Stop #3 – A Confeitaria with a legacy of 120 years

This is a very famous pastry shop, open since 1892, owned by the Moura family. At this tasting location, we will get our sugar levels back up, sampling two pastries at a bakery with a 120-year-old tradition.

Stop #4 – A charming locals-only Tasca

Taverns are the preferred type of restaurant in Porto and this one is very dear to our hearts. Savor this locals-only spot with the very famous "Bifana" and a glass of the oh-so-typical espadal. A mix of flavors that will make your taste buds spin!

Stop #5 – A private retreat within a stunning Garrafeira

Finish off your tour in style with a Port wine masterclass, including 3 different types of Port that may surprise you.

The best of Porto one bite & glass at a time! A full-on fun tour of the real foods of Porto! Our knowledgeable and entertaining guide Miguel kept us fully engaged with his weaving of the history & food of northern Portugal and personal stories of Portuguese family life. Delicious food and wine tastings, authentic venues, and an intimate group made 3 1/2 hours fly by!!

We took the Vintage tour and it was wonderful. The food stops were carefully chosen and Miguel, our guide, was amazing. He knew so much about the city and about Portuguese culture, he shared stories from his own personal life and experiences and was so generous and welcoming. 5 stars experience. Highly recommended!

We booked onto the 10 am food tour with Andre. It was fantastic! We couldn’t have asked for more. There is so much food/wine and history on the tour you certainly don’t need lunch after. Each stop was different - we had a selection of pastries, Sandwiches, traditional Portuguese food and also a port tasting session at the end. Way more than we expected. Thank you so much for a fantastic experience!

Great experience thanks to Miguel and the owners of the spots we visited: a little bit of everything from Bifana to Jesuitas and from Vinho Verde to Fortificados... an excellent way to place yourself inside the food map in Porto. Eskerrik asko! (= Obrigado!)

We did the vintage food tour with Miguel and were blown away by his enthusiasm and local knowledge. Left feeling very satisfied and enjoyed each stop we had. Only regret is to have done this tour at the end of trip rather than the beginning to tap into his tips for Porto. Very much a must-do when visiting and will be recommending to friends when they come here.

Very interesting tour! I had the opportunity to taste some traditional portuguese food that I did not yet know. Very good food and the tour guide, Rita, was very nice! I will repeat for sure!

Absolutely fantastic tour with Miguel, an excellent guide. It was like meeting a group of friends, enjoying the best food in Porto and hearing fantastic stories. Highly recommended when you visit Porto.

We had a great tour! Miguel showed us the less touristic food spots of the city. He did the explanation in a very authentic way and encouraged us to ask many questions. Definitely recommended when you visit Porto!

We went on the Vintage Food Tour in March 2020 and would thoroughly recommend it. Things we liked:
  • It’s a great price for 3.5 hours of entertainment (or longer? – I lost track of the time we were having so much fun), loads of food (it was much more than a taste each time – we didn’t need dinner and I think we just had a snack in the evening afterwards!) and drinks (quite tipsy by the end!)
  • Everything was perfectly organised. All the venues were ready for us and everyone was really friendly.
  • All the places we visited were different in terms of the type of bar, restaurant etc. and we had different types of food in each one – charcuterie, sardines, patisserie and so on.
  • We felt like we were going out of the main tourist streets somewhat. It was the first thing we did on our holiday and really helped with orientation.
  • Also in terms of orientation – it’s more than a food tour. Our group asked so many questions on all sorts of things and our guide knew everything – local attractions, history, culture, architecture, production methods, economics and politics, geography etc. His language skills were impeccable.
  • Although we were there before the pandemic was official, it was reassuring that they were already thinking about safety.
  • The local guide leaflet we were given was really useful for finding other places to try out. We went to one of the restaurants recommended and it was amazing.
  • We met some lovely people on the tour.
  • I really like the fact they support a local homeless charity.
I really can’t think of any negatives. A few small points of advice:
  • There is a bit of up and down and cobbled streets. I was glad I wore sensible shoes.
  • If you want to buy something in one of the shops, do it there and then – we tried to go back to the port wine specialist and didn’t catch them open.
  • Don’t have too big a lunch!

It is the second time I have done a Taste of Porto tour - the first with Andre on City Tour and this time with Maria on the Vintage Tour. Maria is extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable - and can hold her own when explaining the architecture, history, culinary and viticulture against the hustle and bustle of busy Porto streets. Each of the stops we made was an experience until itself. Delicious food, drink and of course Port Wine and regional white, rose and red wines. Altogether an excellent experience.
