This delicate, flaky treat has been a well-kept family secret for generations. If you love pastries with a citrusy touch, try the limonete, a similar treat with a refreshing hint of lemon. All pastries are baked fresh every morning, so you\u2019ll be getting the best quality for your picnic basket.

After indulging in sweets, balance your picnic with fresh fruit and vegetables from Mercado do Bolh\u00e3o. This historic market is a great place to find produce from local farms around Porto.

Don’t forget the tomatoes for an amazing light\u00a0Portuguese-style\u00a0<\/em>salad: tomatoes, olive oil, a pinch of salt, and some onions.

Charcutaria Princesa inside the market is the place to pick up ready-to-eat Portuguese cured meats, like presunto<\/em> (smoked ham) and paio <\/em>(smoked pork loin)<\/a>\u2014perfect for a picnic platter.

Near the butcher, you will find the olive oil you need (in mini bottles) to complete your salad – or any dish you want. It comes directly from the Douro Valley and you can find it at “Bolh\u00e3o Wine House”, a family business owned by Hugo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crossing the street from Mercado do Bolh\u00e3o, you will find the perfect place to grab some Portuguese cheeses in order to complete your basket<\/a>: Casa Chineza. This place is also an amazing typical mercearia<\/em>, as the name self-explains, and it is known by the wonderful Portuguese cheeses that they sell every day.

The food is taken care of – even though we, as locals, would probably still visit “Padaria Ribeiro”(Pra\u00e7a Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, 21) to buy some more Portuguese pastries<\/a> – \u00a0but there is still one very important item missing: the wine.

In this matter, there is no mistake: Prova is the place. Located at Rua de Ferreira Borges (Thursday-Sunday, from 5 pm to 1 am), it is a wine bar with a great selection of wines and the awesome Diogo Amado as owner.
