When we launched in 2013, there was no such thing as a dedicated food tour in the city. We believed that Porto’s greatest stories lived beyond museums or monuments. They were hidden in neighborhood cafés, traditional taverns, family-run shops, bustling markets, and in recipes passed down through generations. More than a decade later, that belief continues to guide everything we do.

But if we’re being honest, our experiences feel less like tours and more like taking a walk with a local friend who wants to share the history, architecture, culture, and cuisine of our beloved city. So that you can taste Porto, the real one!

For a Taste of Porto

Over the years, thousands of travelers from around the world have trusted us to introduce them to Porto. Leading travel publications like Lonely Planet and National Geographic have recommended Taste Porto, while Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown helped shine an international spotlight on Porto’s food culture. These recognitions mean a great deal to us, not because they validate our work, but because they confirm that authentic, locally rooted experiences matter to today’s travelers.

That authenticity begins with the people we choose to work with. Unlike many tours that prioritize convenience or popularity, we exclusively partner with locally owned and independently operated businesses. These are the bakeries, taverns, grocery stores, wine bars, cafés, and restaurants that form the heart of Porto’s culinary identity. Many have been run by the same families for decades, preserving recipes, traditions, and ways of welcoming guests that can’t be replicated.

Supporting these businesses isn’t simply part of our business model. It’s one of our core values.

Travel as a Force for Good

We believe tourism should leave places better than it found them. That’s why every experience we create supports local entrepreneurs, preserves culinary traditions, encourages visitors to explore beyond the busiest tourist streets, and helps family-run businesses continue to thrive in an increasingly globalized world.

When you join one of our experiences, you’re not just buying a tour. You’re helping sustain a network of passionate local businesses that make Porto unique.

Our Taste Porto Team and Their Guiding Style

Our team consists of avid travelers, taste testers, at-home chefs, and cultural explorers – and they all look forward to showing you their beautiful city (and perhaps even raising a glass together over a Port wine tasting in Porto).

As you explore Porto with us, we won’t promise you the best francesinha in town or that you’ll check off every famous landmark in 3.5 hours. That’s not what this is about. We promise you real food – the kind our grandparents adored – and places that carry the weight of our childhood memories. This isn’t just a tour. It’s a chance to become the kind of traveler who leaves an authentic mark – the kind that shapes the city, instead of just passing through.

Whether it’s your first visit to Porto or your tenth, we’d love to welcome you into our city and share the places, people, traditions, and flavors that continue inspiring us every single day.

Now, if you’re looking for more than a typical sightseeing experience, we invite you to join one of our walking tours, food experiences, wine tastings, cooking classes, or cultural adventures.

Come and taste Porto with us!

Porto Food Tours by Taste Porto At Taste Porto, we’re proud to be the founding fathers of food tours in Porto.
